Relocating to Dubai: your questions answered
- What is the fastest way to get a UAE residence visa?
- For most founders the fastest route is an investor visa through their own free zone company. From licence issuance to Emirates ID it usually takes two to four weeks, with the medical test and biometrics done in Dubai.
- Can I sponsor my spouse and children?
- Yes. Once your own residence visa is stamped and you have an Emirates ID, a tenancy contract and a salary or income proof, you can sponsor your spouse and children on family residence visas.
- How many days do I need to spend in the UAE to become tax resident?
- The standard test is 183 days in the UAE within a 12-month period. A 90-day test also exists for UAE nationals, GCC nationals and UAE residents who have a permanent home or a job or business in the country. Your home country may apply its own exit rules.
- Do I need to rent an apartment before applying for a visa?
- Not for your own residence visa, but a registered Ejari tenancy contract is required for family sponsorship and for most utility and banking applications, so we usually run the housing search in parallel.
- Does my residence visa expire if I leave the UAE?
- A UAE residence visa lapses if you stay outside the country for more than six consecutive months, so we plan your travel calendar together with the visa timeline.
